Foods That Are Easy to Digest

When you are just recovering from a bout of stomach flu, it would be unwise to accept an invitation to a four-course roast beef dinner. After enduring several days of vomiting, nausea, and diarrhoea, eating will probably be the last thing on your mind anyway.
While your stomach is still unsettled, your doctor may recommend that you suck on ice chips or take small sips of water. As you begin to feel a little better, sips of ginger ale, that has been set out, open, for an hour to lessen the bubbles, may appeal to you.
* Broth or clear soup
* Dry toast
* Apple sauce
* Boiled, mashed potato, without butter
* White, unsalted crackers
* Boiled white rice
* Gelatin
* Herbal tea, without caffeine As your recovery progresses, you may slowly add the following items which are also easily digested:
* Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice cereal
* white, cooked noodles
* Cooked fruit without skins or seeds
* Mild juices such as apple or grape
* Bananas
* Cooked, mashed vegetables without skins or seeds
* Custard
* Yoghurt with live cultures
* Fish, turkey or other meat that is well-cooked, tender and not stringy Until you are fully recovered, avoid these foods, since they are harder to digest:
* Nuts and seeds, whole grain bread, rolls or crackers, and bran and granola products
* Snack foods, such as chocolate, chips, popcorn, fries, and any items that are heavily seasoned
* Fried or greasy food
* Raw vegetables
* Berries with seeds and acidic fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit or pineapple
* Tomatoes and tomato products such as catsup and tomato juice
* Coffee, regular tea, colas with caffeine and alcoholic beverages The following good eating habits will help in your recovery, but they are also health-inducing tips to follow at any time:
Eat in a calm, relaxed atmosphere.
Chew your food slowly and well.
Don't eat within two hours of bedtime.
If you find that any food causes you discomfort, avoid it in the future.
It you follow this regimen, after a week or two of recuperation, you should be well on the way back to normal If not, of course, you should consult your doctor.
However, if you're feeling fine again, you might call the individual who offered you the invitation to the four-course roast beef dinner. Who knows? Maybe you can manage to inveigle a rain check.
